Full Installation Guide (Updated)

Option 1: Set Up With Your Headset Only

Full Video Tutorial

This 5-minute tutorial covers the full installation and setup process.

Skip to 2:17 if you've already installed the APK or using SideQuest. Captions can be auto-translated.

If you are on v72 (beta), you will need to directly touch the 'files' windows with your finger when installing with Mobile VR Station.

Install Quest Game Tuner

You can install Quest Game Tuner from SideQuest!

If you don't have developer mode or access to a computer, use the method in the full video tutorial.

If you purchased Quest Game Tuner on another device, you can download the APK from GitHub without logging in. Just don't lose your 6-digit key!

Set Up Quest Game Tuner

1. Open the library on your Quest, then select "Unknown Sources" from the dropdown. (Instead of "All Apps")
2. Open - Quest Game Tuner - from the list of unofficial apps.
3. Enter your key from your purchase page in the app.

Carefully follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup.

Option 2: Set Up Using A Windows PC

If you have a windows PC and developer mode on your headset, you can set up Quest Game Tuner in seconds.

First, enable developer mode on your headset

Follow this video tutorial to enable developer mode. If you've already turned on developer mode, you can skip this step.

Then, install and enable Quest Game Tuner

1. Connect your developer-mode quest to your PC with a USB cable.
2. Download "quest-game-tuner-installer.zip" on your PC, then extract it.
3. Run "easy-install-windows.bat" (Double-click it)

(Optional) Paste or type your 6-digit license key in the terminal window, then press enter.

Opening Quest Game Tuner

After setup, your games will automatically be tuned for performance. You can change settings, access extras, and more through the Quest Game Tuner app on your Quest.

You can open Quest Game Tuner from the "Unknown Sources" section of your library.

Once the Quest Game Tuner window is open, you can drag it from the right section of the Quest's dock to the left section to keep it easily accessible. (If there are already 5 icons in the left section of the dock, you'll need to remove one first.)

You can also launch Quest Game Tuner, and all your Quest apps & games, using Lightning Launcher(You can also open an apps tuning settings directly from Lightning Launcher if you have both installed!)

Setting Up Secondary User Accounts (Optional)

Since 1.2.0, you can use Quest Game Tuner on all user accounts on your headset. However, this requires a bit more setup.

1. Fully Set-Up Quest Game Tuner on the primary account

This can be done with either method above. Make sure you're installing Quest Game Tuner to the primary account, for now.
The primary account is the account which shows up first in the the account switcher.

2. Prepare Quest Game Tuner for multiple accounts

Open Quest Game Tuner on the primary account. In Options > Tuning, press Set Up for Secondary Users.

You will need to set a password which is used to encrypt data as it's transferred between accounts. It can be anything you want, but you'll need to remember it for the next step!

3. Set up Quest Game Tuner on the secondary account

Without rebooting, switch to the secondary account.

Install Quest Game Tuner on this account using the Mobile VR Station method, which is explained in the first 2 minutes of the video tutorial. (ADB and SideQuest installation will most likely have issues!)

Open Quest Game Tuner on the secondary account. Enter your license key as you did on the primary account. (Don't worry, this doesn't count as a new device.)

Instead of the normal setup, you'll need to enter the password from the previous step. Upon doing this, Quest Game Tuner will be up and running for the secondary account!

If you can't enter the password, or get no response after entering it, close & reopen Quest Game Tuner window, then try again.

To set up additional secondary users, repeat steps 2 and 3.

Troubleshooting

In most cases, either setup process should work without issue.

If you have an issue not listed here, or need more help, describe your issue here or on discord.

The settings app crashes during on-device setup

If you have a pin, you might need to turn it off. Go to the Quest's Settings app, then security. If you have a pin set, you'll see an option to disable it.

If that doesn't work, or if no pin is set, press the "Click Here if Settings Crashes" button to open settings with an alternate method.

You should now be able to continue setup normally.

Tuning settings don't apply immediately

Check the bottom of the Quest Game Tuner window, it will show you the currently applied settings.

If these don't update after you open or close a game, simply hold the power button and restart your headset once.

Issues with Entering License Key

If your license key is not being accepted, please ensure you spelled it correct. Keys can contain numbers and letter!

If you are prompted to enter your license key more than once, uninstall Quest Game Tuner, then install the latest version from an official source (itch.io, GitHub, or SideQuest).

If you are having issues with a specific key, or if this does not resolve your issue, get in touch on discord.

Infinite Loading while Pairing

While an internet connection is not required for Quest Game Tuner, a LAN connection is. Make sure your headset is connected to a WiFi network.

If you are using PiHole or similar, you may need to allow your headset to establish a local connection with itself.
