Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What improvements can I expect?
Quest 2 & Quest Pro users can expect significant increases in resolution or framerate for most games. These headsets will be automatically overclocked, allowing you to reach Quest 3 settings in many titles.
Quest 3 & Quest 3S users can expect significant increases to framerates or resolutions in Quest 3-exclusive games, and drastic improvements to both in less demanding titles. These headsets have twice the processing power as the Quest 2, and can often reach PCVR-like settings when fully utilized.
Quest 1 users should expect minimal, if any, improvements.
Which apps and games are supported?
All VR Applications can be automatically or manually tuned in Quest Game Tuner. You can also tune the home environment, which can improve your experience when using 2D apps on the headset.
2D apps cannot be individually tuned, but you can make them visible to be searched and launched.
How about sideloaded/unofficial/modded apps?
Yes, as long as they use VR. Auto-tuning works best on unmodified apps from the Meta Quest Store or SideQuest. Highly modified or homebrew apps may work better with custom tuning settings.
Will Quest Game Tuner damage my device?
Absolutely not. While Quest Game Tuner can cause your hardware to run at elevated performance levels, these levels are within specifications and are totally safe. Your headset may get warm or drain it's battery faster, though.
In the unlikely case that your headset is unable to cool itself, it will lower performance or shut down before it is able to overheat.
What does Quest Game Tuner know about me?
Almost nothing. When you activate Quest Game tuner, it gets your headset's randomized device ID - this is the only data I'll ever collect.
Everything else, including Auto-Tuning and settings, is done, and stored, fully on-device.
The background accessibility service used to detect game launches can only see windowStateChanged events, not your interactions or inputs.
Is Quest Game Tuner secure?
Yes. I've handled confidential data on multi-billion dollar projects at my day job, so I make sure to handle security with care.
A privileged ADB connection is required to apply tuning settings. Quest Game Tuner securely generates an X.509 certificate on setup, which is unique to both you and your device. This certificate is held in private storage, is used to secure all ADB interactions.
Under specific conditions, the background service can perform limited interactions on unmodifiable system confirmation windows, only if and when it directly spawned them.
Where are my profiles/settings stored?
All Quest Tuner data is in Android/data. You'll need to connect your Quest to a PC and click the file access notification. Then, navigate to Android\data\com.threethan.tuner\ in your Quest 3's shared storage.
These files can be modified/backed up/restored manually, but Quest Game Tuner will only ever detect supported settings. Profiles for 2D apps will never apply.
How do I disable Quest Game Tuner?
Use the Don't Tune (App Decides All) profile to disable tuning for a specific app. Set it to the default tuning profile to disable tuning for all apps on the default profile. This will still let you tune specific apps and use Quest Game Tuner's other features.
